creative

I love ideating, designing, and making elegant things of all different forms, and this page features some of my favorite artistic projects to date. I find the process of creating art to be relaxing, eye-opening, and just straight up fun, so wherever I am, I always try to surround myself with art.

This page is mostly digital or 3D creations, but I also sporadically post on my YouTube. I’ve expanded this page to include some dance performances, since dance is a large part of my crazy schedule at MIT. I have also written a little bit, and here are some pieces that I love:

  • “Out of Balance” – short story
    • written in fall 2019, senior year creative writing class. inspired by doctor who and ted chiang
  • World Enough and Time – poetry collection
    • written in winter / spring 2020, senior year creative writing class. centered on themes of [im]permanence, nature, interpersonal relationships, and time. 12 poems, 17 pages.
  • “Escape” – short story
    • written in fall 2021, 21W.759 (Writing Science Fiction). inspired by my love for science fiction, and wonder of what it’d be like if we could easily reach far across the universe.
  • “New Boundaries” – short story
    • written in fall 2021, 21W.759 (Writing Science Fiction). a continuation of the universe of “Escape,” so I could give some extra love to my characters and their world.

Enjoy!

longing for joy (相见欢)

12.2022

This was my second cover for ADT! This dance was a bit more technically advanced and also led by two of my friends. It was fun to dance in a smaller setting again, and with a lot of the choreographers that I wanted to get to know better. Luckily there were also fewer morning practices for this cover!

name signs

05.2022

MIT has so many makerspaces and free materials, I always feel like I should be making gifts for my family and friends instead of crashing the campus merch store. Right at the end of the semester, I quickly typed up some names on Adobe Illustrator and laser-cut these signs for my siblings and roommate.

embroidered flowers

03.2022

Over the pandemic some of the clubs I joined would send out care packages with self-care items and activities to do. I ended up with several embroidery kits and committed to completing one of them. I started this particularly design over summer 2021, and after many, many months I finally finished it at the beginning of spring break. Currently, it’s sitting in my dorm room still in the hoop.

rainbow cascade

07.2021

I installed this in my bedroom at my summer house, after having these two blocks of wood sit in my dorm room for the entire spring semester. I drilled 24 holes into each, put in screw eyes, and used command strips to secure the wood to the wall. I then strung rainbow yarn back and forth through each of the screws, warping it slightly at the beginning to create this pringle-like effect. I’ve had this idea for forever, and finally acted on it.

rings

08.2020

I envisioned a design that could be used as a seal or logo, with two concentric circles, a flower in the middle, and lines of some sort branching between the circles. I made a gold Lotus version first, then a black Sakura version. Also done in Procreate.

moon drip (no background)

07.2020

This is the original moon drip drawing, without any dark background for the moon. I then decided that everything kind of looked too bright, so I put in a dark background to make the above version of moon drip.

grad cap

06.2020

I have Always wanted to decorate my graduation cap, so I was super excited to do so with my extra quarantine time. I planned out the design in Procreate at first, and then drew in each flower and leaf digitally. I had the overall digital art file printed out at the post office (for higher-quality paper), and then cut everything out. I hot-glued each piece to my graduation cap, then improvised the top half with white paint. Lastly, I used white fabric marker to write in my high school years and two important dates to me, one of which was the day I got into MIT.

lotus in june (六月清荷)

02-05.2023

I loved choreographing last semester and came back this semester to put on a classical fan dance! I did this dance myself when I was in middle school, and I’ve wanted to bring this to ADT for a while. I was working with a much bigger dance this time, and it was definitely more challenging. In the end, though, I think everyone still had fun and I definitely learned a lot!

tang dynasty (翎子)

09-12.2022

Fall 2022 was my first semester choreographing for ADT. While this was not original choreography that I created, this was my very first time teaching others, picking costumes, making formations, and deciding lighting cues. It was actually not as difficult as I thought it would be, and I definitely credit my background in traditional dance for giving me confidence and intuition in making decisions.

flower of the moon (月之花语)

03-04.2022

I participated in my first ever dance cover with ADT! Covers are smaller, short-term projects where we learn a dance and then film a video in the end. It was super cool to be part of a cover, and I really enjoyed being in a smaller setting and getting to know my other dancers really well.

bzz bzz brain

08.2021

I created this animation for The Borderline @ MIT, building off of one of their existing murals. This was done in Procreate, which was easy to learn and fun to do! The mural currently lives in the new Kendall Square MIT Welcome Center, and the animation can be viewed through the Artivive AR art app.

philtatos

08.2020

I saw a drawing on Instagram that had a lovely, colorful, cloud-filled sky, and I took inspiration from it for this drawing. I worked on the clouds at home, and then finished up the mountain while on the road during a family vacation in Tennessee. Everything was done in Procreate – I actually didn’t know that there was a flower petal brush, so these petals were not originally planned.

moon drip (dark background)

07.2020

I wanted to pursue a project that was a bit more complex, and I originally envisioned this as a moon dripping into a jar – like someone catching magical moon drops. As I started working on the piece, I realized that I really just wanted to focus on the moon and making it look as magical and sparkly as possible, so I ditched the jar. There are two versions of this drawing: one with no background and one with a dark rectangle behind it, which is on the left here. Done in Procreate.

grad cards

07.2020

My childhood best friend gave all of us graduation gifts at the beginning of the summer, and I was inspired to give a gift of my own. I designed and drew these cards by hand, customizing the gift box, tissue paper, and sprinkle color to be each friend’s favorite color, along with their name at the bottom. I printed out each of the custom designs, glued them onto gold and black cardstock, and filled up the back with my personal messages. Then, I ordered two college-related stickers for each friend from Redbubble, and baked a huge batch of cookies the night before I planned to deliver everything. I put two cookies each into little cellophane bags, then packaged everything into bags with a card, two stickers, and a bag of cookies. To deliver everything to everyone, I drove around Houston for three hours in the middle of July, but it was worth it to surprise everyone.

serenity

05.2019

For the final project of my junior year English class, my teacher tasked us with creating an installation on our school’s campus that would inspire play or relaxation in an area that typically does not. I decided to transform our lobby floor into the surface of a koi pond. I spent a weekend hand tracing and cutting out the koi fish, their patterns, and the lily pads from butcher paper. I taped everything down to the floor with clear packing tape, and added some origami lotus flowers at the end. This remains my favorite school project to date.
